Is the "Reverse Flowing Stream" an incredible reality or just the product of imagination?
We guide you to the "Standing Stream Izvoare", which the locals call so because it has no "flow". It is actually an artificial canal, built in the middle of the last century, to water the animals that graze on this plateau, and to supply water to the locals. Since then, a village called Irigyvesze has been established near to the water. The water of the canal was led up to the plateau from the Izvoare stream, and because of the very small fall, visitors descending into the Izvoare Valley have the impression that the water of the canal is flowing upwards!
It is ingenious how the water of the Izvoare was diverted into the ditch next to a rock. The ditch is well maintained, and next to it is a 1.5-2 km long beaten path. As the stream has to be crossed at the beginning of the hike, it is recommended to have a change of shoes or rubber boots.
Approach: leaving behind us the crossroads that leads to the Harghita Mădăraș mountain, in the direction of the Fertău peak, after about 0.5 km, we reach the road junction called Kecskevész, where we park our vehicles. From here, we continue on foot to Fertău peak. After about 1 km, the road starts to rise more prominently. On the left side of the road we find a sign with the name "The stream that flows back", next to this sign there is a path that takes us to the stream bed, where you will find the canal.
